Mentoring
Birmingham Future’s mentoring committee manages the implementation of two mentoring schemes, both of which are making a positive impact on the personal and professional development of the city’s next generation of leaders by focusing on real learning needs and helping young professionals to reach their full potential.
A scheme to match mentors and mentees from the city’s professional community was launched in 2002 and has resulted in many mutually-beneficial relationships. This scheme has recently been re-launched as ‘Momentum’ and is open to all Birmingham Future members who want to reap the many rewards of being mentored. Similarly, the mentoring committee always welcomes applications from potential mentors who want to pass on the benefit of their experience.
Running alongside Momentum, there is a dedicated downward mentoring scheme for Birmingham City University’s undergraduates, known as Inspiring Futures.
Both initiatives continue to go from strength to strength, with almost one third of Birmingham Future’s membership actively involved in one of the schemes.
In recognition of the difference it can make to the personal development of professionals the committee is now working towards accreditation, for both schemes, by the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation.
