News & Events
Chairman’s Overview - Chris Robertson
Thanks to all of those who attended last month's events. Hopefully all of those that attended the Meet & Mix at Petit Blanc will have been as impressed as me at the passion that Raymond Blanc showed for Birmingham. The challenge he laid down - that we should ensure the pace of regeneration is maintained - is one that I am sure will strike a chord with all of us.
The calendar of events for October and November is looking extremely busy (click here for full event listings) with some really high quality events - specific mention for our annual Graduate Fair being held today at the ICCand our Autumn keynote address on 10 November in particular. For the latter, this year the speaker is Humphrey Walters an expert in motivating teams. In addition to extensive work within the business community, he is perhaps best know for his work in a sporting context - with Sir Clive Woodward and the World Cup winning England Rugby team. This promises to be an excellent event.
Finally, you'll remember that I've set Diversity as the top priority for my year as Chair - specifically, putting Future at the forefront of efforts to ensure the gender and ethnic mix of our sector becomes fully reflective of our city. I'm pleased to report that Alex Bishop has recruited an excellent team already. The team had their first meeting this week and have already started to develop an exciting programme of activity over the coming months. I look forward to reporting more in due course.
Date for your diary!
On Friday 27 January 2006, Birmingham Future will be hosting an event at which the guest speaker will be the former General Secretary of the Trade Unions Congress, Sir Bill Morris. He will talk about leadership, the changing work place and work/life balance, the latter being the topic of his highly-regarded recent Radio 4 series. More details will be available very soon; put the date in your diary now as it will be very popular!

Shaken not stirred...
Following on from Birmingham Future’s recent cocktail training event at Zinc Bar & Grill, we can reveal that the winning cocktail, as invented by a team from Golley Slater, RBoS and PKF, was the Sunset Sapphire.
If you fancy trying out your cocktail making skills, below are the ingredients for making this fruity little number.
The Sunset Sapphire:
Ingredients:
- 4 fresh raspberries
- 6 mint leaves
- 37.5ml Bombay sapphire
- 12.5ml kiwi schnapps
- 12.5ml lychee schnapps
Method:
Chill martini glass and prepare with an icing sugar rim. Muddle the mint and raspberries with kiwi schnapps in the cocktail shaker, add the rest of the ingredients. Shake and strain into martini glass. Garnish with a mint sprig stuck into a raspberry and enjoy.
The cocktail is now available at Zinc, priced £7.00.
2005 Members Survey
We are currently in the process of compiling the 2005 members survey. This will be on it's way to all of the current Birminghan Future members shortly. The completion of this survey will help the Leadership Team to base its future strategy on sound footings. Please give us your time as your views are vital to the future effectiveness of Birmingham Future.
