City Firms Back Birmingham's Young Professionals

Members of Birmingham's business community have been quicker than ever to show their support for the city's up-and-coming business talent, snapping-up sponsorship opportunities for this year's Birmingham Young Professional of the Year (BYPY) awards in record time. The awards, which are organised by lobby group Birmingham Future and are now into their fifth year, recognise the individual achievements of the city's most talented young professionals. They will be presented at a prestigious awards ceremony at the ICC on Thursday 19 May. Alex Bishop, chair of the BYPY team, explains: "The ceremony itself will be attended by the cream of Birmingham's professional and financial services community, with more than 500 high-net-worth individuals expected. "With partners, managing directors and young executives all set to join the celebrations, sponsoring the event represents an excellent business opportunity to tap into a potentially lucrative pool of customers while supporting the business leaders of tomorrow." The main sponsor for BYPY 2005 is law firm Wragge & Co LLP and the Inspiring Leader category is sponsored by leading professional services firm, Deloitte. Sector sponsors include the Territorial Army (Communications category), recruitment consultants Pertemps (Financial category), Advantage West Midlands (Legal category), property consultancy Bucknall Austin (Property & Construction category), and the Government Office for the West Midlands (Recruitment & Training category). "The speed at which sponsorship opportunities have been snapped up is representative of the increasing regard in which the competition is held," continued Ms Bishop. "The fact that we have been able to retain previous sponsors while attracting new companies' support suggests that the city's business community really values being associated with the event. We are delighted to have secured such strong backing in this, our fifth birthday year, and would like to thank all those who have offered such crucial support." A few sponsorship opportunities do remain and companies interested in supporting the awards should contact the Birmingham Future office on 0121 632 2200 for details. The deadline for nominations for BYPY 2005 has now passed. You can, however, nominate your Inspiring Leader by visiting the Inspiring Leader section of the website (www.birminghamfuture.co.uk/bypy) and downloading the fax back form. This category is open to individuals of any age whose work in the city has proved particularly inspirational.
