Birmingham Future’s Adopted School Project

Birmingham Future has "adopted" Moseley School, a vibrantly diverse secondary school with approximately 1,350 pupils. The school has high aspirations for its children, however, only 25% of them achieve the national target of 5 or more GCSE's at grade C or above.

Birmingham Future aims to facilitate the school in encouraging ambition, inspiring and supporting pupils to pursue careers within one of Birmingham's many professional and business sectors.

This project led by Birmingham Future's Diversity Committee, is eager to obtain participation from members. We are looking for people to commit between 1 and 4 hours, on one or more occasions in order to engage with pupils on a variety of activities and events which aim to:

- Increase industry knowledge through project based “apprentice” type and other events

- Give insight into the careers available through career discussions and industry games

- Better understand professional life by participating in office visits and mock meetings

- Develop employment skills by undertaking mock interviews

- Promote self esteem by giving presentations assisted and assessed by participants

- Raise ambition by showing the pupils, first hand and the personal benefits of a professional career.

If you are willing to invest short periods of time between October 2009 and July 2010 with Birmingham Future's Adopted School Project, please contact the Community Development Committee.
