Event details

Did you know that volunteering can have a real impact on your personal development and career? Have you ever thought about giving something back to the community and sharing your skills and expertise, but not known where to start? Our ‘Exploring Volunteering’ event will answer these questions and show you how to help give back to the city whilst helping your career.

Hear from Birmingham Forward Board Member Nick Venning (Marketing Director, Global Industry Programme, PwC) on his experiences and the ups and downs during his long career in the voluntary sector for organisations such as Prince’s Trust and St Basils. Explore the opportunities available from various carefully selected good causes who need your help. Listen to brief presentations covering what they do, the type of skills and expertise they are looking for and the time commitments required so you can choose which, if any, you may like to assist in the future.

Sharing your knowledge, skills and expertise can make a real impact on good causes in this city. As many people who have volunteered their time will attest, you will develop skills and experience and make new contacts that can prove instrumental in driving your career forward. It also looks great on your CV and can prove a key way of differentiating you from your peers.

Hilary Allen, this years Birmingham Young Professional of the Year winner, says ““I became involved with UpRising through Future in the Community and there is no doubt in my mind about the positive effect that volunteering has had on my career. The people I’ve met, the networks it accesses and the real challenges presented have all contributed to making me more effective…as well as being a better person helping to make a difference.”
