Leading business academic shares his views for going forward

Respected business commentator and academic, Professor David Bailey presented a well-received overview of the current business climate to Birmingham Forward members at the organisations quarterly Economic Lunch event on Tuesday at the Jury’s Inn in Birmingham.

At the lunch Professor Bailey, Director of Coventry Business School, explained how the Midlands economy had reacted to the challenges to the region’s manufacturing base and how some of the issues faced in the local economy could be addressed.

Birmingham Active Citizens - Intercultural exchange to India, national exchanges within UK, leadership and facilitation training, mentoring, skills, opportunities, the world is your oyster

Ulfah Arts and Media is seeking 10 participants to experience a journey of leadership and social action to set up Birmingham Active Citizens  (BAC) – a volunteer group of citizens from all walks of life collectively working towards social change in their local communities  through social action projects. BAC members will be working together to establish Radio Active – a unique community project which develops radio dramas and documentaries highlighting social issues as well as lobbying for a fair and inclusive press.

Inspiring Futures

Inspiring Futures is the result of a highly successful partnership between Birmingham Future and Birmingham City University.  The scheme provides students with mentoring from members of Birmingham Future through regular contact over an academic year.  Established five years ago, the scheme has just celebrated the end of its most successful year which resulted in 76 mentoring relationships and this year we are looking to continue to build on this success.

Word from the Chair

It’s a great pleasure and privilege to bring to you my first comments as Chair having taken over at our End of Year Dinner in August. As well as an opportunity to hear from my predecessor Darren Walker and from our Inspiring Leader for 2011, Paul Thandi, in my first appearance as Chair, I was able in my speech to outline my vision and aspirations for my year ahead.  For those of you who could not make it along, I would like to summarise the key messages and thoughts I shared with those at the Dinner and also to revisit a few highlights from the past month.
